Faits divers, the mysterious contemporary exhibition to explore at MAC-VAL

On TV, in newspapers and magazines, on podcasts: news stories fascinate many people, and can be found everywhere... Even in art! The MAC-VAL 's artists take us into their own investigation, with the major exhibition Faits divers, on view from November 15 2024 to April 14 2025.

The MAC-VAL is offering us a unique and original experience: 80 artists have come together to tell us, in their own way, about a news item. Photographs, paintings, collages, drawings, films and videos, installations: each work shows a different angle of a crime or accident. Reality or a skewed view of the facts? It's up to you to find out by examining each piece and the accompanying clues. Five mysteries are presented, but no straightforward answers are given. For each new chapter in the exhibition, "exhibits" are placed in the scenography, so that you can investigate. It's up to you to make up your own mind...

News stories fascinate by the mystery that surrounds them. Intimately linked to the world of investigation, police and justice, the news item is a brutal break with everyday life, reminding us of the violence and obscure excesses to which certain individuals are subjected.

The contemporary artists invited by the MAC-VAL play with this element of shock, this break with the banal, and the morbid curiosity that arises in the viewer when confronted with these events. The artists also play detective, trying to unravel the mystery exposed through their works and their unique vision. The exhibition becomes almost playful, as if we were in the middle of a life-size game.

With this unique and unexpected theme, the MAC-VAL also pays tribute tocontemporary art and its great diversity. 80 artists, 80 different styles and universes, and hundreds of ways to illustrate a story.
