New: an ephemeral Hong Kong café at the Grand Palais for Art Basel Paris

Hong Kong is the guest of Art Basel Paris 2024, with the opening of an authentic Cha Chaan Teng, a typical Hong Kong tea room, at the Grand Palais from October 18 to 20. An opportunity to discover more about this unique Asian destination, its art scene and its cultural wealth!

Art Basel is without doubt one of the most eagerly awaited events in thecontemporary art world. With international editions from Hong Kong to Basel to Miami, the fair attracts an enthusiastic public every year.

This 2024 edition ofArt Basel Paris will welcome a very special guest: the Hong Kong Tourism Board, offering a unique opportunity for fair visitors to discover the emblematic flavors of Hong Kong while immersing themselves in a global art experience in the heart of Paris.

This ephemeral café, set up on the 1st floor of the Grand Palais, is much more than just a tasting room. It illustrates the intrinsic culture of Hong Kong, which combines East and West, and recreates the typical atmosphere of these cafés dating back to the 1950s, with their lively ambience and comforting flavours. Here you can savor such iconic sweets as pineapple bun, a buttery brioche with a crust reminiscent of pineapple,egg tart, a delicious egg tartlet, mango pudding or Hong Kong Milk Tea, a velvety milk tea appreciated for its sweetness.

During the three days ofArt Basel Paris, visitors will be able to relax during their visit and explore Hong Kong's culinary wealth through this immersive sensory experience. Hong Kong-based artist Trevor Yeung will illuminate the café with his luminous works of art. This retro-style meeting space will also feature the typical colorful patterned tiles and comfortable banquettes, as well as traditional Hong Kong neon signs.

This foretaste is obviously intended to inspire you to travel to Hong Kong and discover its artistic and cultural offerings. Don't miss the Month of the Arts (Art in HK), held every year in March. This event transforms the territory into an international artistic crossroads with a rich and varied program, including the famous Art Basel Hong Kong fair , the next edition ofwhich will be held from March 28 to 30, 2025. Art and culture lovers can also enjoy the new gems of the West Kowloon cultural district, such as the M+ Museum and the Hong Kong Palace Museum.
