Attention sports fans and seasoned collectors - Bonhams Cornette de Saint Cyr is organizing its very first auction of sports memorabilia in Paris, from March 17 to 26, 2025. And to warm up the room before kick-off, the 8th arrondissement auction house is opening its doors to a free exhibition from Monday March 24 to Wednesday March 26. An opportunity to admire relics that have marked the history of soccer, basketball, tennis, cycling and the Olympic Games, and thrilled generations of fans.
A plunge into sporting legend At the helm is a duo of experts who know the terrain: Jean-Marc Leynet, a key figure in the sporting world for 25 years, and Julie Mathon, in charge of the sale. On the sales floor, 55 legendary lots, an anthology of shirts, cleats, rackets and emblematic trophies belonging to the greatest champions.
Among the nuggets on display is Lionel Messi's last jersey with Newell's Old Boys in 1999, worn just before he left for FC Barcelona. Alongside it, a pair of the Argentine genius' cleats, worn to the hilt against Chelsea in the 2006 Champions League.
Michael Jordan fans will be able to see for themselves his legendary No.23 Chicago Bulls jersey, worn during the 1997-1998 NBA season, as well as a rare ball from the 1997 McDonald's Open, when the Bulls beat the competition in Paris.
On the tennis side, Novak Djokovic's racket, used in his titanic clash with Nadal in the 2014 French Open final, and Steffi Graf's racket, used in her legendary clash with Serena Williams at Indian Wells, are among the highlights.
For lovers of the Olympic Games, three official torches - Paris 2024, Tokyo 2020 and Beijing 2022 - will light the flame of nostalgia, while the three medals from the 1968 Grenoble Olympics recall the great hours of ice hockey.
Finally, the kings of cycling have not been forgotten: there are ultra-precious jerseys from Jacques Anquetil and Eddy Merckx, true icons of the discipline.
Free and open to all, this exhibition is a must-go for sports enthusiasts, those nostalgic for past exploits and those dreaming of a piece of legend in their living room. After that, all that's left to do is to take your place at the starting line for the auction and try to make history in your own way.
