You're no doubt familiar with the spritz, the Venetian cocktail that has been invading Parisian bars, restaurants and terraces for many years, proving a real hit with Parisians who sip it on summer evenings. Made with Prosecco, seltzer, Campari bitter or Aperol, the spritz should of course be consumed in moderation.
Along, fizzydrink, its origins date back to the Austrian occupation of the Venetian region of Italy in the 19th century. Austrian soldiers found the local wine too strong and decided to sweeten it with sparkling water. Thus was born Spritz, derived from the German word"spritzen" meaning"to splash".
Over time, the recipe was refined by adding Aperol or Campari for a touch of bitterness, and a slice of orange for garnish. Today, spritz has become a staple of summer aperitifs, with its light yet bitter taste and bright color, reminiscent of Italian sunsets.
