Do you dream of a pastry shop where you can have everything you want? Olivier Stehly has done it for us! Every Sunday, this pastry chef awaits us in his Châtelet-les-Halles tea room for a 100% gourmet all-you-can-eat brunch , where pastries take center stage.
Inside, the stars are well chilled, while there's plenty of room for brunch next door. Viennoiseries, pancakes, crêpes, madeleines, cereals, eggs, salads and quiches, as well as pastries, macaroons, cookies and financiers, you'll be spoilt for choice and tempted to try them all. Especially as we're already familiar with Olivier's cookies and financiers, they're hard to resist!
On a whim, we fill the plates. The pancakes are delicious, especially topped with maple syrup, and the madeleine are just as melting as we like them (soaked in café au lait!). Resolutely regressive, this is brunch heaven for big kids, who find mini sausages to accompany scrambled eggs.
While we could all do with pastries, the chef has planned quiches and lentil and quinoa salads, simple but well executed. Two other dishes are due to arrive: a risotto and a pasta dish to keep things gourmet, and for winter, soups will be introduced.
As for cheeses, the chef offers a few very basic suggestions (camembert, emmental and spreadable cheeses), his most seductive "cheese" being his cheesecake, in his window!
Yes, it's not for nothing thatOlivier Stelhy is nicknamed the Sugar Hero. This gourmet pastry chef has created a brunch in his own image: fun, bold and creative. Gourmets must try the chocolate bar, the eskimo, the Saint-Honoré, the Saint-Domingue and the lemon tart!
Please note that it's been over 4 years since our last visit, so the place and experience may have changed.
