There are certain discoveries that turn into a real crush. Mr. T is one of those places that makes you see cuisine from a different angle, to the point of falling in love with certain flavors all over again, thanks to dishes that are at once gastronomic, refined and creative.
Mr. T is THE trendy, gourmet restaurant in the Marais. Behind this establishment, open since 2017, are three partners: Guillaume, Enguerrand Cantegrel and chef Tsuyoshi Miyazaki, aka Mr. T.
Enguerrand and Tsuyoshi met several years ago, when they were both working at Passage 53. After spending several years there, the two gained experience in New York for Tsuyoshi, then in the hotel business for Enguerrand, but never forgetting their promise to open a restaurant together one day.
This is how the two acolytes came together to give birth to the beautiful Parisian table, aptly named Mr. T.
To welcome gourmets, Enguerrand and Tsuyoshi have opted for a brand-new decor that's welcoming, chic and a little bling - check out the gold curtain at the back of the restaurant, which Beyoncé wouldn't disown!
And then, with its open kitchen, you can watch the chef at the stove, executing the dishes. The tantalizing smells are already making themselves felt, giving us a few clues about the menu.
On the menu, we discover a new lunch menu, available at a very reasonable price: €28. In the evening, Mr. T takes you on a culinary voyage with a new 5-moment tasting menu (and a few surprises to boot!) that's a real hit.
At lunchtime, we decide to put our trust in the Mr. T team and choose the signature dishes that have been so popular with gourmets.
So we opt for the nem-style veggie gyozas, served with sweet chili cream, spicy green ravioli hidden in the greenery; and for the Mac&Cheese, a marvel of gourmet goodness that passes before our eyes under the heat of the blowtorch until it forms a lovely crust of golden cheese.
Because at Mr. T's, the show is part of the meal. Just choose the lamb shoulder kebab from the à la carte menu to find out for yourself. This tasty starter arrives on the table in a real, steaming kebab box.
Once the box is opened, a strong smell of smoked rosemary reaches our nostrils. A real treat for the eyes and nose, this appetizer is just as good for the taste buds, with a succulent marriage of flavors and meat cooked to perfection.
Whether you're a carnivore, a fish lover or even a vegetarian, you're bound to find what you're looking for.
Here again, we let the Maison guide us with our eyes closed, recommending two other key dishes from the menu: on the one hand, the burnt mackerel with roasted lemon and horseradish sauce, a nice surprise; on the other, the famous Black Smoky Burger, which also goes through the intractable fire of the blowtorch. And to be smoked, it's smoked, with its beautiful pieces of bacon and burnt eggplant reduction, spread under the cap of this astonishing black charcoal bun.
Finally, on the dessert side, since we must end on a sweet note, we opt for lightness with the destructured cheesecake composed of grapefruit supremes, a yoghurt emulsion and a fresh goat's cheese cream with a strong mouthfeel. Lovers of explosive flavors beware!
To round things off, Mr. T offers a cocktail menu that changes every month, just like the food menu. There are 3 long drinks and 3 short drinks. We recommend the Mexican Mule, with a Vecindad tequila infused on the spot with pineapple and coriander. Yes, Mr. T makes everything himself, from syrups to infusions!
In short, Mr. T has managed to surprise and seduce us with his conviviality, creativity and mouth-watering dishes. So, a simple piece of advice: go for it!
Please note that it's been over 4 years since our last visit, so the place and experience may have changed.
