Fancy a hot dog? Café Jules, located at Printemps de l'Homme in the capital's 9th arrondissement, has made it its specialty with a whole range of "hot dogs" revisited "à la française". A "masculine" café inaugurated to coincide with the opening of the department store's new concept, Printemps du Goût, and offering, in addition to its hot dogs, a totally innovative venue open all day, from breakfast to dinner.
The idea? "To respect the original concept of the hot dog, while sublimating and personalizing it with quality ingredients. As a token of quality, the project was entrusted to a MOF (Meilleur Ouvrier de France), and a most singular menu was thus born. These "daring" recipes offer gourmets and other lovers of top-of-the-range street food " a real tour of France based on extremely well-sourced products ".
What's special about these hot dogs? They're all named Jules, in honor of Printemps founder Jules Jaluzot. The dishes reflect " the gastronomic landscape of a region, around an original sausage specially made to order by a butcher " and around an original bread from Maison Keyser.
Each sandwich features a bread, a sausage and a side dish. There's the " Jules Parisien ", made with plain bread, Paris ham sausage, Paris pickles, crispy onions and gherkin sauce, and the " Basque ", with Espelette pepper bread, chorizo and smoked pepper sausage, piperade and crispy bacon.
The " Niçois ", for example, features olive bread, veal sausage, arugula, pistou sauce, baby greens and tomato concassé; the " Vert " includes cereal bread, beet sausage, peas, arugula, tartar sauce and a vegetable mix; and the " Breton " features buckwheat bread, lobster sausage, guacamole and a vegetable mix. All these gourmet recipes are designed with a balanced diet in mind.
And of course, we enjoyed every last crumb! We particularly like the Vert, a vegetarian sandwich that's slightly sweet and very pleasant on the palate. We also like the Alsatian and Alpine sandwiches, the former made with sauerkraut, the latter with cheese, which is quite delicate and subtle in taste. Sandwiches are served with fries or sucrine salad for those with a sweet tooth.
And for those who are still hungry, you can order a salad of the moment, or indulge in the house dessert, " Augustine ", in homage to Augustine Figeac, former member of the Comédie Française and wife of Jules Jaluzot. An icy treat, made with freshly ripened fruit and milk from the day's milking, as well as meringue, cookies and coulis, topped with an airy, voluptuous Fontainebleau cream.
Menus adapted to every hour of the day: for breakfast, for example, the hot dog is replaced by organic fried eggs, toast with butter and jam, orange juice and a hot drink. For afterwork, sausage boards take over, with a beer or cocktail of the day. An establishment where everything is possible... Shall we take a stroll, friends?
Please note that it's been over 4 years since our last visit, so the place and experience may have changed.
