Tasting nature… this is what Café 52 at Hotel Grand Powers offers. Set a stone’s throw from the Champs-Elysées, this restaurant is the perfect address for a both tasty and healthy break. Because here, products are mainly organic, as local as possible, and everything is prepared in respect of flavors. Both eco-friendly and resolutely trendy, it’s perfect to enjoy the best of nature.
Let’s meet at the hotel restaurant, which soft and warm setting makes us feel like at home. The team greets you with a smile and a benevolent look while you browse the menu. Good surprise for our vegan friends, many dishes will fit your lifestyle: here’s a spot to have the whole table on the same tune!
As a starter, we literally fell for the “Assiette vegan du jardinier”: super-creamy and light mashed butternuts sprinkled with plant-based soil and served with carrots and mushrooms, coming straight from Bruno Cayron’s kitchen garden. A few hazelnuts bring some crunch and it’s perfect!
We also fell in love with the Scandinavian smørrebrød, a generous gluten-free slice of bread with avocado, smoked trout from the Pyrenees sprinkled with pomegranate seeds. It’s a classic of the restaurant and definitely one of our favs.
And for those who like to share, a plate of falafels might be a heartbreaker. This Levantine specialty based on chickpea and organic favas will make even the most demanding gourmets happy: not too dry, nor too oily, they’re perfect! Served with Tahina sauce (based on sesame), mixed to cottage cheese, you’ll eat them to the very last single crumb!
Moving on to the main course, we have a great vegan Dahl that will make those who already went to India walk down to memory lane. Based on stewed and smooth red lentils from Berry, Basmati rice, the whole sprinkled with flowers, this delicate dish is such a feast for the eyes and taste buds.
For the many fans of poke-bowl, you’ll be delighted. A super colorful bowl based on quinoa from Vendée, marinated salmon, avocado, flavorful pickled red cabbag. The softness of the avocado and the sourness of the pickles give the perfect balance to this generous poke-bowl.
As for us, we feel in love twice. We highly recommend the roasted supreme, yellow poultry from south-west (and organic, please) served with coconut milk and butternut mousseline. Once again, the natural flavors are ingeniously lifted to make sure it has a nice and strong taste.
Our second favorite is the “Retour de petit bateau”. It highlights the fish of the day with roasted Saint-Omer cauliflower slightly lifted with spicy sauce. When we came, it was some smooth cod, but carefully, though, it’s heartier than it looks.
As for dessert, chocolate lovers will surely have the walnut brownie by Maison Chambelland, served warm with a lava heart. Matcha tea fans will go for the dessert based on figs, cream cheese and matcha, a surprising pairing we highly recommend!
To pair your dishes, the restaurant offers a nice selection of natural wines as well as detox juices such as the Invincible based on beetroot, raspberry and apple that we really enjoyed!
Mother nature does it good.
Please note that it's been over 4 years since our last visit, so the place and experience may have changed.
