Tomato and onion salad, and now lots of herbs and fresh cheese. It's a fact that so-called "Berlin kebabs" have been springing up here and there in Paris for months now. But it would be wrong to say that they're all the same, far from it - you can see the old traditional kebabs renaming themselves Berlin kebabs to keep up with the hype!
In the 11th arrondissement, we're unveiling a genuine Berlin kebab, opened last year: Impact Berliner Kebap. Granted, the name of the place may give you the creeps, but here we're talking about culinary delights and the pleasure of the taste buds.
At the helm of the spinning grilled spits are Mahdi and Lydia, who have just one idea in mind: to offer Parisians a 100% home-made kebab. Their recipes are based on quality products: the bread is made every morning by a local baker, the meat comes directly from Rungis, and the vegetables and herbs are sourced from local producers. A must.
As for the recipe, the Berlin kebab (€7.50) is available here with all the elements you'd expect: chicken marinated in 4 spices, lots of grilled vegetables of course, with zucchini, peppers and carrots topping the list, salad, tomatoes, cucumber, red onion and red cabbage for freshness and color, aromatic herbs, and feta cheese on top for kif.
For the more traditional among you, Impact Berliner Kebap still offers a classic kebab (€6.50), without grilled vegetables and feta, but with just as much love. And for vegetarians, the spot also offers a kebab made with seitan (€8.50), a marinated vegan meat, and vegan feta.
What's more, kebabs here can be enjoyed in sandwich form, in traditional Turkish bread or in a patty, but also in bowl form with a spiced wheat or quinoa base, for those who don't want to get it all over themselves. Because we're telling you right now, kebabs are plump and copiously full, so it's hard to escape getting a stain on your pants!
To accompany this kingly meal, we love the crispy, homemade French fries, to be dipped in one of the 4 homemade sauces also found in the kebabs: a homemade mayonnaise with fresh herbs and garlic (our favorite!); a fresh cheese, lemon and mint sauce; a chimichurri sauce with parsley, oregano, garlic, chives and chili; and a sesame sauce.
And to toast the joy of finding a real Berlin kebab in Paris, we'll of course opt for a bottle of Fritz Kola or Club Mate!
