Located just a stone's throw from Olympia in Paris's 9th arrondissement, the AO Izakaya Japanese restaurant has been a favorite of Japanese food lovers for many years, with the chef offering a number of authentic Japanese classics prepared with care and elegance.
The dining room is on two levels, with an open kitchen on the ground floor where you can watch the brigade in action. The team includes two chefs, one specializing in fusion cuisine, the other in sushi and sashimi.
Upstairs, the ambience is more subdued, with wood panelling and bottles of sake on display - a true immersion in a Tokyo Izakaya.
In fine weather, a terrace on rue de Caumartin welcomes you for a Japanese experience in the shade of parasols.
The AO is just a few steps from the Olympia, Théâtre Edouard VII and Louis Jouvet.
Easy access 250m from the Auber RER station, and the QPARK Olympia parking lot is just a 1-minute walk away, how convenient!
For lovers of French and Japanese gastronomy, AO Izakaya offers a 5-, 6- or 7-course tasting menu.
This menu features a number of dishes with a predominantly French flavour, with the "Japanese" side appearing in small touches through particular ingredients or seasonings.
For starters, theroasted eggplant, grilled soy mousse, crunchy pistachios and apricot cognac coulis is a must: the chef plays on the marriage of tastes and textures with brio.
Escalope de foie gras à la plancha on sushi rice with teriyaki sauce is also a best-seller.
The AO has also won over a loyal clientele for its premium sushi and sashimi, which stands out from the neighborhood Japanese. The Moriawase sushi assortment is a judicious choice, and the california rolls are also a success.
Please note that the sushi menu is only available on weekdays!
At lunchtime, from Monday to Friday, top-of-the-range Bentos are offered in 4 variations.
For dessert, you'll be tempted by the Mi-cuit chocolat et coeur matcha, super gourmand! Lovers of Japanese desserts will be delighted with the Mochi with cherry blossom and red bean and its green tea ice cream.
A wide selection of Japanese whiskies and sakes will enhance your tasting experience, and a wine and sake pairing option is also available.
A resolutely refined Japanese experience at AO, count €69 for the 5-course Omakase menu.
For lunch, Omakase menu €28, Bento Premium from €20.
