Originally from Vietnam, banh bao is a steamed brioche filled with minced pork, black mushrooms, hard-boiled egg and spring onion. Made with a dough kneaded for a long time until it becomes soft and elastic, these steamed buns are a very popular dish in Vietnam - but also in many Southeast Asian countries, usually served as a snack or side dish. It's hard to resist these soft, puffy buns!
Baozi are the Chinese equivalent of banh bao. Commonly known as bao, baozi can also be stuffed with minced pork, as well as chicken, tofu and various vegetables for vegetarians and vegans. Steamed, giving them a soft, slightly sticky texture, bao can be eaten on the go, in restaurants or on the street, and even come in a sweet version, filled with red bean paste.
You don't have to go all the way to China or Vietnam to devour banh bao and baozi; in Paris, too, Asian restaurants offer these airy specialties! From small stalls to chic addresses, trendy tables to new restaurants, here are the best places to eat banh bao and baozi in Paris!
