As a third coronavirus wave is about to break ashore, a new nationwide lockdown has been ruled out by the government. An earlier curfew - from 6 p.m. - has been chosen and only expected to be applied to departments the virus spreads the most. Here are the 25 departments concerned, and the 3 next departments that to be placed under early curfew.

We must say that this would not be a never-before-seen measure: over the globe, several countries are placed into lockdown for the third time since the crisis broke out.

But a possible new local-based lockdown has been ruled out for now by the executive that prefers curfew from 6 p.m. in departments the most hit by the pandemic. All in all, twenty departments where the incidence and hospitalization rates are the highest.

"We will propose to extend curfew that will start from 6 p.m. instead of 8 p.m. in all territories where it is necessary" Olivier Véran said this Tuesday evening on France 2. Measures to be instated from January 2.

  • Strict, quick and short-termed "preventive reinforcement", measures to limit contaminations during the second week of the Holidays starting December 28.

  •  Postponed and adapted answers to the surplus of contaminations during the end of the year (limited social or economical activities likely to increase contaminations).

  • Later answer, aiming at limit effects of the epidemic breaking out again.

Other restrictions might be implemented in the event the epidemic was breaking out again past the Holidays.
