The Fête de la Science 2024 program in Cergy-Pontoise :

  • Discovering the sky
    October 12

Stars, planets, the solar system... Enter the inflatable planetarium at LERMA (Laboratoire d'étude du rayonnement et de la matière en astrophysique et atmosphère) to discover all the secrets of the sky!

  • Opening night: the melodious whale
    October 03

Cetaceans are marine mammals that use sound in their vital activities and social interactions. Dolphins produce clicks and whistles, while whales emit harmonic vocalizations. By listening to original recordings, Olivier Adam, researcher at the Institut Jean Le Rond d'Alembert (Sorbonne University/CNRS), will detail their vocal generator and the characteristics of these sounds. What are they used for? Are they structured? If we speak of songs, can we also speak of language? Do human activities have an impact, and if so, how?
The conference will be followed by a cocktail reception to open the Fête de la science 2024.
This event is part of the Open University lecture series organized by CY Cergy Paris Université.

  • Elementary Day
    October 11

For a morning or afternoon, CY Cergy Paris Université welcomes primary school classes to talk about science and its challenges. The program includes a number of scientific and fun workshops:
Journey to the heart of the infinitely small
The human being is made up of billions of cells, the basic unit of living organisms. These cells all function in the same way, but are also very different! Come and discover the fabulous world of the cell in all its states by drawing and building your own cell after observing them under the microscope, to better understand the world of the infinitely small!
Become a veterinary surgeon in a fun workshop to understand how biological analyses are carried out on small animals.

    Molecular cuisine
Seaweed is making its way onto our plates. Their complex chemical composition and unique properties are pushing back the boundaries of culinary creativity. With algae, science meets art to create delicious and surprising dishes.

    Ocean workshops
Les Petits Débrouillards offer a range of ocean-themed activities. Come and discover the secret life of plankton, observe the different colors of the ocean and wonder about the reasons for these variations. Scientific experiments will help you better understand the diversity of marine environments, the physical characteristics of these water reservoirs (Archimedes' buoyancy, marine currents, etc.), the impact of climate change on marine biodiversity and the migration of species...
The aim of these activities is to show that we all have a link with the ocean, whether we're near or far, and that it's urgent to take care of it!

    Peluchology
Peluchology is a "soft science" which, through the observation of stuffed animals, teaches young and old about the classification of living things. With the exception that the object of study is not the living creature, but the stuffed animal!

    Planet games
Learn to identify celestial bodies. How do you recognize a planet in the sky? What are the differences between planets and other celestial bodies? Come and find out in this Star Park activity.

    Map of the sky
Discover the sky through the study of educational and entertaining maps offered by the Parc aux étoiles. The wonderful world of space and constellations will no longer hold any secrets for you!

    Origami
China, 2nd century A.D. While observing wasps, we discover a strange material they produce from bark to make their nests. What if we did the same? Paper was born! Today, paper is indispensable for everything... including origami!
