From the practice of sport by the elite in the 19th century, to the international influence of disciplines born of the urban counter-culture of the 1980s-1990s, this exhibition covers a century of social and political issues linked to sport in the suburbs. Thanks to numerous archive images, it also reveals the extent to which sport has gradually become a structuring element in suburban development policies. From "red sport" to parkour, from militaristic ideology to emancipatory demands, the exhibition, designed by the Maison de banlieue et de l'architecture, looks at the thousand and one facets of sport and its architecture in Essonne and Val-de-Marne.

1961. The new glass-and-steel terminal, which spans the Nationale 7 motorway and presents motorists coming from Paris with a 200-metre blue-and-yellow glass facade, strikes people with its resolutely modern architecture. The airport immediately became France's most visited landmark. The terraces of Orly, sung by Bécaud, were part of the decor of 60s France, which aspired to modernity....
This conference will take you back to that glorious era, and show how this emblematic building of the "Trente Glorieuses" is a major part of the Paris region's heritage.
