Good news! Nearly 6.6 million households will see their housing benefit increased by 3.26% from October 1, 2024. This increase, based on changes in the rent reference index, concerns APL, ALF and ALS benefits, and is designed to offset the rise in rental charges.
The annual revaluation of housing subsidies is now scheduled every October 1 to adjust the amounts to actual housing expenses, such as rents and charges. This decision is based on changes in the rent reference index (IRL), which rose by 3.26% in the second quarter of 2024, according to Insee. This rate applies uniformly throughout France, including overseas territories and Corsica.
For example, a person currently receiving €175 in APL per month will see their assistance rise to around €180.70. This increase is a first step before a further means-tested increase scheduled for January 1, 2025.
In all, around 5.6 million recipients of housing benefit will benefit from this increase, including 2.6 million for APL, 2.1 million for ALS and 900,000 for ALF. These benefits are essential for many low-income households, enabling them to cover part of their housing costs in the face of steadily rising rents.
This automatic revaluation mechanism guarantees support that is better adapted to changes in rental costs, which is particularly crucial in a context of inflation. Beneficiaries do not need to take any action to benefit from this increase, which will be applied directly to their allowance fromOctober onwards.
This increase must be treated with caution, as it is currently only a draft decree. For it to become official, the text must be published in the Journal Officiel, which is not yet the case at the time of writing.
However, barring opposition from the government, housing subsidies for 5.6 million people in France are set to rise by 3.26% in the coming weeks.
No action is required to benefit from this increase, as it will be automatically applied by your Caf.
