On January 22, 1963, the Federal Republic of Germany and the French Republic signed the Elysée Treaty, marking the post-war reconciliation between the two countries and celebratingFranco-German friendship. This year, the treaty celebrates its 60th anniversary, and to mark the occasion, the two countries have decided to share it with the young citizens of their countries. So, throughout the year and from July onwards, 60,000 young French people will be able to discover Berlin, Hamburg, Munich and Cologne by train, free of charge!
This bi-national ticket is intended exclusively for young people aged 18 to 27, enabling them to travel freely on the neighboring country's rail network for one month. And the allocation platform opens its doors this Monday, June 12, 2023 at 11 a.m., so be sure to take a quick look if you're interested! Seven days' travel are on offer, for unlimited access to the rail network, both regional and high-speed, valid for one month from the first journey made, from July 1 to December 31, 2023.
The two allied governments have expressed a desire to develop tourism between the two countries, and to encourage travel by train to discover them more easily. The SNCF and Deutsche Bahn will receive financial support to carry out this mission.
In addition, both countries are aiming for a direct high-speed rail link between Berlin and Paris by 2024, as well as a night train. The two railroads already operate TGVs between France and Germany, thanks to the Paris-Strasbourg link. So, are you ready to discover Germany from top to bottom this summer?
