While inflation is hitting France hard, especially on foodstuffs, TotalEnergies announced this week that it would cap prices at the pump in all its stations. This measure, unlike time-limited pump discounts, is sustainable and will be in place throughout 2023. So, whatever fuel you use for your car, it won't cost you more than €1.99 per liter at TotalEnergies stations.
A price that may seem high, compared to the one we have known before, and the one that triggered the Yellow Vests movement. But with the significant increases that took place during the year 2022, this cap should relieve more than one to go and fill up. According to several opposition MPs, this is not enough, given the taxes implemented on fuel.
The RN deputy Jean-Philippe Tanguy believes that "the government is responsible" and that it should "take the necessary fiscal measures because when there is a fuel at 2 euros, there are still 1.20 euros of taxes. It remains to be seen whether the oil giant's competitors will align themselves with this capped price.
