The OPTM, owner of the 56th floor and historic operator of the Montparnasse Tower's panoramic observatory, has provided further details on the reasons for the terrace's closure. According to an OPTM press release, the Montparnasse Tower's condominium association terminated, effective midnight March 31, the agreement enabling OPTM to make this legendary site accessible to Parisians and tourists for over 45 years. The OPTM, which owns the commercial property, had already initiated legal proceedings in 2021, which are still pending before the Paris Court of Justice. ESSET, the condominium manager, has decided to block access to the terrace for visitors to the observatory without waiting for a court ruling.
This closure means the cancellation of numerous events planned on the terrace, including the Urban Altitude festival, the 50th anniversary festivities of the Tour Montparnasse and others. It's important to remember that the Observatoire Paris Montparnasse had already announced this winter the cancellation of the 5th edition of the ephemeral ice rink.
In conclusion, the closure of theMontparnasse Tower Observatory terrace is a regrettable situation for those who wished to enjoy this unique experience. Let's hope that the legal proceedings underway will resolve this dispute and allow the terrace to be reopened for the enjoyment of Parisians and tourists alike. In the meantime, the 56th floor remains open, still offering an exceptional panoramic view of the capital.
Note from the establishment:
The terrace was reopened on July 16, 2023!
