If you were out and about in the capital on Friday afternoon, July 28, you must have seen the deluge coming and ended up drenched! Not surprising, given the record rainfall since 2018. It's been years since the capital has seen such an accumulation on a single day, while between the end of July and the beginning of August, 104mm fell on Paris, something that hadn't happened at this time for almost 20 years!
By the end of July, Paris was taking on water, with many places flooded. The metro, of course, but also Montmartre, where several videos show the rain violently descending the hundreds of steps near the funicular. It was a veritable deluge, with almost 24mm of rain falling in half an hour, to impressive effect. According to Météo France, the cumulative total for the day was 48.1mm of rain, no less!

It hadn't rained this much on a single day since June 11, 2018 in the capital, and this is one of the strongest episodes in the region for almost 40 years. Since July 28, and up to this Sunday, August 6, this exceptional rainy episode continues to take its toll, and the millimeters of rain are piling up. The amount of rain that has fallen is "four times the average for the period" ,the first time this has happened at this time of year, in the middle of summer, since 2001.
