Bad news for Paris metro users, accustomed to using the moving walkway at Châtelet - Les Halles. Used extensively by passengers, this moving walkway provides connections between the RER zone and metro lines 1, 7 and 11.
After an initial closure from February 14 to July 31, the moving walk way at this famous station, which is very busy during rush hour, will be closed again from October 30, 2023 to April 20, 2024, i.e. for 25 weeks.
" Mechanical and electrical components are replaced on a regular basis to guarantee the durability and reliability of the equipment throughout its lifecycle ", explains RATP to justify the renovation work.
While the two remaining moving walkways will be accessible to traffic for the duration of the operation, just like the conventional corridor, RATP is nevertheless inviting users to take a pedestrian route on the roadway, lasting around 3 minutes, to " facilitate flows ". In detail, they are advised to take exit N°1 Marguerite de Navarre, in order to quickly reach, " thanks to signage ", exits N°10, 11 and 13, and vice versa.
Unfortunately, this temporary closure of the moving walkway at Châtelet - Les Halles is not the last. RATP is announcing a final phase of work, this one scheduled to take place after the 2024 Olympic Games.
