The Paris 2024 Olympic Games haven't even passed yet, but the 2028 Games in Los Angeles are already gearing up! And as with every Olympics, new sports are being added and others are disappearing from the program. For the first time in the history of the modern Games, 35 or 36 disciplines will be presented to the public, three more than in Paris. The International Olympic Committee has selected cricket, squash, flag soccer, lacrosse and baseball, but we'll have to wait until Monday October 16 to see them fully validated.
While some of them may seem a little improbable or little practiced, particularly in Europe, they all have their reasons for landing at the Games. The announcement of cricket was the most eagerly awaited, and is set to reach countries and audiences outside its usual zone, i.e. India, where it is the national sport, and Commonwealth countries. It made its brief appearance in Paris in 1900, and now boasts a record number of Olympic sports, including baseball, which will be present in Tokyo, and lacrosse and flag soccer, which are very popular in America.
