We still remember the closure of the Virgin Mégastore, which at the time was the subject of much ink and protest. Recently, it was the iconic Disney Store and Gaumont Marignan that had to say goodbye. The same goes forUGC Normandie, which is now in the hot seat. And don't put away your handkerchiefs, it's the turn of Fnac Champs-Elysées to say goodbye.
The final word came down on Wednesday March 20, 2024: the landmark store, which opened its doors in 1997, will close at the end of the year. The announcement by Fnac Darty Paris was made to the trade unions at an extraordinary works council meeting. Good news, however, for the 101 employees, who will not be made redundant. They will be able to take up similar positions in the Group's other stores at Ternes, Saint-Lazare, Les Halles and Beaugrenelle.
According to the group, losses had become too great. Add to this the increase in fixed rental costs demanded by the most beautiful avenue in the world, and the decline in footfall in the area, and we have arrived at this sad result. It has to be said that the avenue, which is increasingly turning towards luxury and international clientele, no longer corresponded to the store's criteria.
Fnac Darty did, however, manage to get out of the red last year, posting a net profit of 50 million euros, after suffering a loss of 32 million in 2022. For our part, we regret the departure of this retailer, which regularly offered signing sessions and exceptional encounters with numerous stars and artists.
