More RER A trains for less saturated evenings from September 2024? Île-de-France Mobilités is improving service by replacing short trains with longer ones, responding to user demand for smoother journeys. This initiative promises to revolutionize the experience of the 1.4 million daily passengers on Europe's busiest line.
This autumn, look forward to smoother, more comfortable evening journeys on the RER A line! From September 2024, Île-de-France Mobilités is announcing an increase in evening service, with long trains replacing short ones. This initiative is in response to the growing demand from the national users' federation, in the face of often overcrowded evenings.

The RERA, Europe's busiest line and the "backbone" of the Île-de-France region, carries 1.4 million passengers daily over its 109 kilometers. Analyses by Transilien SNCF Voyageurs and RATP reveal a particularly high level of traffic to Marne-la-Vallée Chessy on Friday and Saturday evenings. As a result, IDFM, under the presidency of Valérie Pécresse, has decided to deploy long trains, with a capacity of 2,600 passengers thanks to double-decker trains, on these evenings all year round.

Long trains will also run on public holidays, and in the evenings from Monday to Thursday during the summer, from mid-July to the end of August. This will complement existing services for major events at La Défense Arena. Sunday evenings, however, will continue to be served by short trains, due to low ridership.
This improvement promises more pleasant journeys, reducing saturation and offering more space and comfort for RER A passengers. A significant step forward for all those who depend on this emblematic line.
