A hint of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games ? Indeed, in July 2024, the quais hauts had closed a few days before the opening ceremony to ensure safety and the smooth running of the event. Restrictions on the quais hauts rive gauche are being implemented in several stages:

  • From Wednesday December 4 to 12 noon on December 9: motorized traffic will be prohibited on the Left Bank quays between the Pont de la Tournelle and the Pont-Neuf. Cycle paths will also be closed, and access will be restricted to pedestrians. Detour will be provided.
  • From Saturday, December 7 at 7am to Sunday, December 8 at 8pm : an anti-terrorist SILT (internal security and anti-terrorism) perimeter will cover the whole of the Ile de la Cité and the Left Bank quays, from the Pont de la Tournelle to the Pont-Neuf. Motorized traffic will be totally prohibited, and only accredited pedestrians (contractors or guests) will be allowed to walk in the area.

The reopening of Notre-Dame de Paris is likely to cause major traffic disruption in central Paris over the next few days!
