Directed by Walt Becker, Alvin and the Chipmunks - Full Throttle is the fourth installment in the popular animated/live-action saga that continues to center on the wacky musical adventures ofAlvin, Simon and Theodore. Written by Randi Mayem Singer, this new episode takes the three squirrels on a road trip across the United States, punctuated by adventures, songs and family misunderstandings. It reunites Jason Lee, Kimberly Williams-Paisley and Josh Green for a comedy aimed at children and families, in the same vein as previous installments.
Alvin et les Chipmunks - À fond la caisse will be available on Netflix from April 26, 2025 and already on Disney+.
Synopsis: After a series of misunderstandings, Alvin, Simon and Theodore realize that Dave is going to propose to his girlfriend in Miami and may abandon them. They have three days to find him and prevent the marriage. They then embark on a road trip across America: adventure, music and big mischief.
The first 3 films were box-office hits, so the producers didn't hesitate to take on the adventure once again. Alvin and the Chipmunks is the first film in the saga in which David Cross does not appear in the cast. Amy Poehler, who has been present since the second film, has decided not to return, and has been replaced by Kaley Cuoco from The Big Bang Theory.
This fourth installment is aimed at a young audience, aged 6 and over, as well as families who have followed the previous adventures. The idea of the road trip, a new narrative framework, renews the formula while retaining the ingredients that have made the saga such a success: slapstick humor, pop songs and serial silliness. Those who enjoyed the previous films, or universes such as The Smurfs and Paddington, should find the same visual and comic pleasure. Adults with little appreciation of this type of humor or the Chipmunks' music will not be the target audience.
With its varied settings, family adventures and lively rhythms, Alvin and the Chipmunks - Full Throttle bringsthe saga full circlewith a blend of tenderness, humor and music, true to its DNA. An adventure designed for youngsters, in a format as rhythmic and colorful as ever.
Our review of Alvin and the Chipmunks - Full steam ahead :
As crazy and cute as ever, Alvins Theodore and Simon compete in their mischief to prevent Dave from getting engaged. Their journey to Miami is punctuated by their blunders as much as by their frenzied songs. They truly provoke mass hysteria by releasing animals onto a plane, and can't take three steps without causing an accident. The Chipmunks tornado takes everything in its path... fortunately mitigated by the Chipettes; always more reasonable than our three heroes, but inevitably a lot less funny!
Tony Hale is just as hilarious. Literally obsessed with the chipmunks, this slightly idiotic air policeman relentlessly hunts them down after the unfortunate plane episode: but it's not easy to catch someone who's no taller than three apples.
Beneath its gags and songs, Alvin and the Chipmunks also deals with serious current issues, from the explosion of digital technology to the question of adoption and the blended family. A film for big and small children alike, to be seen with those closest to us.
