Small earthquake in the video game world, and in particular on PS5... PlayStation has revealed, on January 30th 2023, an advert revealing images, partly in live action, of past and future games on its next-gen console! A spot put online as part of an advertising campaign, entitled Live from PS5, informing of an increase in the stock of consoles in the world. By the way, here it is!
Regarding the images of games revealed, let's mention those already released, such asHorizon: Forbidden West, God of War: Ragnarok, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart or Returnal, on which journalists do a duplex, making live the games in question. As for those to come, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is getting a nice place in the sun, too, as is Final Fantasy XVI. But there are some intriguing images that crystallize all the attention, three more precisely...
What do they show? We can see a young blonde woman, bag on her back, exploring a kind of cave, discovering an ancient artifact... A teaser for a future Uncharted on PS5? That's what the specialized media and Internet users are suggesting, hoping, just like us, for a new opus around the adventure franchise loved by gamers. The young woman would be, according to them, Cassie Drake, Nathan and Elena's daughter...
Assumptions that seem unlikely... And for good reason: Neil Druckman, co-president of the studio behind Uncharted, Naughty Dog, told our colleagues at Buzzfeed that the team of developers had put "a final stop" to the adventures of Nathan Drake. "This time it's over, we move on," he also added. Is it then the next Tomb Raider? It's possible, as this one is in development at Crystal Dynamics and Amazon Games. But the commercial being attached to details (at least for the other games highlighted), it's unlikely that it's the next Tomb Raider (unless Lara Croft has changed her hair color in the meantime and Sony is the publisher of the game, the other games highlighted being all published by Sony PlayStation...), which is scheduled to be released on the PS5 as well, as well as on other consoles.
So, what is this game teased in the spot? Images referring to one of the four Uncharted games already released (or the "long DLC" Lost Legacy)? That's possible too. But the "Uncharted 5" card can't be ruled out either, although Naughty Dog has said it's not developing any new games from the franchise. The reason? Our colleagues from JV. com give us the reason, citing our colleagues from The Leak.
According to them, PlayStation would have entrusted another third-party studio with the development of a reboot (and not a sequel) of the saga. But Naughty Dog would not be far from the project, and would help the new studio by sharing its universe. And it is not Christina-Marie Drake McBrearty, recruiter at Naughty Dog, who will tell us otherwise! "It'samazing to be able to build the future teams not only for the new titles, but also for the Uncharted legacy, which is very personal and special to me and my family," she explained last April on her LinkedIn page, indicating at the same time that a new Uncharted could well be in the works.
Uncharted, a golden goose that PlayStation does not seem to want to abandon anytime soon. And for good reason: Uncharted 4 has recorded a very good sales record, with 16 million copies sold worldwide since the game's release in 2017. A franchise that it would be silly to do without.
