What's the most popular Pokémon in France? A question that many gamers and other fans of the franchise have probably asked themselves at some point... And the answer comes straight from The Toy Zone, a site offering toy reviews and recommendations, which unveiled an infographic this Friday, January 26, 2024, mapping the most popular creature for each country.
How did they do it? The Toy Zone explains its methodology:"we started with a starting list of all Pokémon for all nine generations and, using the Ahrefs search volume tool, we collected the Google search volume for each Pokémon name for each available country (i.e., how often the Pokémon is searched for locally)," they explain. They continue:"The most popular Pokémon in each country is the Pokémon with the highest local search volume as a share of global search volume".
He also explains the reason for this infographic:"Since the very first Pokémon game hit Japanese shelves in 1996, nine generations of Pokémon have come to life in more games, trading cards, TV shows and movies. But of the more than 1,000 creatures living in the magical Pokémon universe, which are the most popular across our real world?" they point out.
They continue:"Our map reveals the most singularly popular Pokémon in 115 countries, based on the volume of Pokémon-specific Google search queries made locally versus the share of global search volume - in other words, how much more sought-after a particular creature is locally than globally." He concludes:"the most singularly popular Pokémon in each country is the Pokémon with the highest local search volume as a share of global search volume".

So, what's the most popular Pokémon in France? Well, it's Flabébé... This infographic should be taken with a grain of salt, however, since even if the methodology is quite serious, the starting point is not, since there's nothing to indicate that the volume of searches on the question has anything to do with whether or not the creature is appreciated. Pokémon can be researched for many reasons: stats, evolutions or simply tips on how to catch them in a game... So many things are possible, and the results depend on the search.
But the information is interesting nonetheless. So, gamers, which one is your favorite?
