Sony officially lifted the veil on the long-awaited PS5 Pro on October 10, 2024, with a conference presenting the console, whose release date is now known, as it is scheduled for November 7. Priced at €799.99(the console without the disc drive), this new version of the PS5 promises unrivalled power on the market. Two models will be available, one with an integrated disc drive (add €150), the other without, offering gamers different options to suit their preferences. The PS5 Pro promises to be a true technological jewel, destined to redefine gaming standards.
This new version boasts outstanding performance, reaching 33.5 TeraFLOPS of computing power, more than three times that of the current PS5. A feat made possible by the new"Playstation Spectral Super Resolution" system, capable of improving fluidity without compromising the visual quality of games. This technology, backed by leading publishers, will notably double the frame rate, for an even more immersive gaming experience. " We want to give gamers the graphics that developers want to see in their games," said Mark Cerny, PlayStation console architect.
However, the PS5 Pro will face some challenges at launch. Indeed, although the PS5 has won out over the Xbox, no major titles will accompany the release of this new console. Gamers will have to wait until at least April 2025 to discover new games from Sony's studios. In the meantime, titles such as Horizon: Forbidden West or Marvel's Spider-Man 2 will benefit from the PS5 Pro's boosted performance, which should keep enthusiasts interested.
The PS5 Pro marks a turning point in the race for power, but public acceptance remains uncertain. The year 2025 promises to be crucial in determining whether gamers will be ready to invest in this state-of-the-art console.
