March 8th is the International Women's Rights Day. On this day, many events are organized all over Paris. This is notably the case at the Canadian Cultural Centre, which invites the collective Les so(u)rcières for the occasion.
Under the artistic co-direction of Gaelle Wondje and Fredy Massamba, Les so(u)rcières is a collective born from a meeting between Andréanne Martin, Nadine Altounji (Canada), Mahoussi Kotche, Danielle Eog Makedah and Becky Beh (Cameroon). Based on their experiences as women, artists and citizens of the world, they have produced a unique work.
On Wednesday, March 8, the collective Les so(u)rcières will unveil to the public present at the Canadian Cultural Centre their hybrid music, oscillating between jazz, blues and soul, all mixed with traditional music influences from Benin, Cameroon and Syria. Note that this evening is free, but reservations are required and can be made on the Canadian Cultural Centre's website.
In addition to this musical performance, the Canadian Cultural Centre will also propose the projection of a short documentary, and a discussion around different themes (violence against women, the place of women in the music industry, emancipation and the influence of the territory on creation).
