Another third day of Rock en Seine's 20th anniversary, with powerful shows from Cypress Hill, The Chemical Brothers and Brutus! A look back at Saturday August 26, 2023 at the Domaine national de Saint-Cloud.

Legs are starting to feel a little tired on this third day of Rock en Seine, but the pleasure of treading the site of the Domaine National de Saint-Cloud for the 20th anniversary of the Parisian festival is still there. By mid-afternoon, the crowds were thicker than at the same time the day before.

We kick off the day on Saturday August 26 on the Grande Scène with a delightful discovery that is an undeniable invitation to travel. Hailing from both the Netherlands and Turkey, Altin Gün pay homage to the tradition of Anatolian rock, a Turkish psychedelic movement popular between the mid-Sixties and the late Seventies. The result? The sextet, made up of singer Merve Daşdemir, vocalist Erdinç Ecevit Yıldız, and four other musicians delivered a sunny, fresh and playful set, with bewitching folk influences. A fine discovery to kick off the third day of Rock en Seine.

Then it's off to the Scène du Bosquet to listen to the post rock style of Dry Cleaning. The project is interesting musically, with singer Florence Shaw's " Spoken Word ". But live, the sauce unfortunately doesn't take. Lacking presence and energy, we would have preferred a slightly more dynamic set. It's a pity, because we were expecting a lot from this British band.

Energy, on the other hand, was to be found in Cypress Hill's powerful show on Rock en Seine's Grande Scène from 7.30pm. Following the cancellation of Florence + The Machine due to health problems, the American hip-hop group didn't hesitate for a second to take her place this Saturday, offering festival-goers a successful, over-the-top set, brilliantly performed by B-Real, Sen Dog and DJ Muggs. Considered one of the pioneers of West Coast rap, the US outfit got the crowd up and dancing with tracks from their legendary"Black Sunday" opus, released 30 years ago!

Moments of pure bliss on " Insane in the Brain ", " I Ain't Goin' Out Like That " and " Hits from the Bong ". A masterful and successful return to the past for this essential group on the American hip-hop scene!

Before heading to the Scène du Bosquet for Brutus' thunderous show, we made a detour to the Scène Firestone to listen to part of Coach Party's set. Straight from the Isle of Wright in the UK, this indie rock band quickly won our ears with energetic, catchy tunes from a talented quartet due to release their debut LP,"Killjoy", on September 8, 2023! A little bird tells us that Coach Party, who opened for Wet Leg and even Indochine at the Stade de France, will be making even more of a splash in the coming weeks.

Now we're off to the Bosquet stage to enjoy the concert by Brutus, a real live and musical favorite on Saturday August 26, 2023. With their devastating style mixing post rock, punk and hardcore, but also shoehaze moments and incredible atmospheric flights, this trio from Belgium literally conquered the ears of a good part of the audience present that evening in front of the Scène du Bosquet.

Their strength? Powerful tunes that get you shaking your head and tapping your feet, and an undeniable complicity between these three talented musicians: singer and drummer Stefanie Mannaerts, bassist Peter Mulders and guitarist Stijn Vanhoegaerden. Let's hear it for Stefanie's incredible performance: she manages to play the drums and sing along with her powerful, raspy voice, which we love. In short, Brutus exhausted us physically, but gave us a memorable set that makes us want to see them live again as soon as possible.

Festivals are often about choices. Scheduled at the same time as Brutus, we arrived in front of the Cascade Stage for the end of the American Yeah Yeah Yeahs ' set, where tornado Karen O finished off the hit " Date With the Night " by throwing her microphone to the ground and into the air, but with a smile on her face. Judging by the broad smiles on the faces of the audience, the set must have been a success.

Next up was the legendary British electronic music duo Tom Rowlands andEd Simon, The Chemical Brothers. Considered by many to be the pioneers of the big beat style, alongside the likes of The Prodigy and Fatboy Slim, The Chemical Brothers took to the Rock en Seine stage at 9.50pm with an ultra-energetic, highly visual set.

As the two artists brilliantly mixed several of their global hits (" Hey Boy Hey Girl ", " Go", " Escape Velocity "...), highly graphic images scrolled across the back of the stage. Nothing to complain about. Dynamic, catchy and captivating. The Chemical Brothers are still one of the artists we look forward to seeing live!
