If you've been following the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, then you couldn't have missed this incredible performance. Perched on the balconies of the Conciergerie, the four members of Gojira really set this superb tableau alight, with their brilliant rendition of the revolutionary chant " Ah! Ça ira ". But the metal quartet were not alone in their performance. French-Swiss opera singer Marina Viotti accompanied them on a flying boat in front of the Conciergerie. This memorable musical moment ended with Carmen's " Habanera ".
While some were hearing her name for the very first time, others were not. After all, Marina Viotti is a celebrated mezzo-soprano who has already performed on the world's classical stages, including La Scala in Milan and the Paris Opéra. As for metal music, Marina Viotti knows it well. She was a member of the metal bands Lost Legacy and Soulmaker, before finally embarking on a musical career geared more towards classical music. Proof of her renown, in 2023 the singer was crowned Lyric Artist of the Year at the Victoires de la Musique Classique awards.
If you've fallen in love with her voice, then you should know that Marina Viotti is set to take over two Parisian stages in the coming months.
The opera singer will make her debut at theOpéra Bastille. From September 26 to October 18, 2024, she will perform the role of Siebel in Charles Gounod's five-act opera"Faust".
Then it's off to the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées from March 22 to April 6, 2025 for"Werther". In this lyrical drama in four acts and five tableaux by Jules Massenet, Marina Viotti plays the role of Charlotte alongside Benjamin Bernheim in the title role.
While we're waiting to see her live in Paris, we're delighted to review her performance alongside Gojira on July 26.
