The France-Romania Season at the Musée du Louvre! To mark this cultural event celebrating the centenaries of the creation of modern Romania and the end of the First World War, the Parisian institution invites us to discover Romanian liturgical fabrics from April 17 to July 29, 2019. The exhibition marks the emblematic Romanian loan of King Stephen the Great's "Banner of St. George".
The aim is to"highlight the exceptional nature of Romania's collections of traditional Byzantine embroidery, a jewel of Romanian and universal heritage". Around this banner, several "outstanding works" are on display to illustrate"the extraordinary development of Byzantine embroidery in Romania from the mid-15th to the mid-17th century".
The exhibition also features liturgical fabrics and other priestly panoplies for bishops, priests and deacons,"inherited from Byzantium" and embroidered"for the celebration of worship". An opportunity to discover the delicate workmanship of this type of fabric, as well as the history behind these works and Franco-Romanian diplomatic relations.
