Museums Night 2019 at the Panthéon

For Museums Night 2019, Paris Panthéon opens at night on Saturday May 18, 2019 and invites us to listen to writers and poets while enjoying a literally stroll in the nave.

If the Panthéon is no museum, the national monument makes the best of the Museums Night to open for free and at night during its “Grande Bibliothèque” weekend. This Saturday May 18, 2019, from 7 p.m., writers, poets and performers can roam around the Panthéon.

It will be a beautiful occasion to visit the monument of the Great Men of the French Republic, starting from the French Revolution. After the July Monarchy, a period during which the Panthéon becomes a church again, it was only in 1885 that the monument featuring this impressive dome finally becomes the monument devoted to Great Men with Victor Hugo’s funerals. We have the graves of Rousseau, Voltaire, Emile Zola, Jean Moulin, Louis Braille, Jean Monnet, Marie Curie and Simone Veil.

On the menu of Museums Night 2019 at the Panthéon:

  • Itinerant comments in the monument from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
    Julien d’Abrigeon, Julien Blaine, Hortense Gauthier, Joël Hubaut, Didier Philippoteaux, Cécile Richard, Louise Vanardois take us to the greatest texts written from Voltaire to Victor Hugo, for a stroll in the grand nave of the historical monument.

  • Conference “La culture sauvera-t-elle le monde?” [Will culture save the world ?] from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m;
    Bibliothèques Sans Frontières hosts a conference called “La culture sauvera-t-elle le monde?”, a wonderful occasion for the association to explain how important reading and culture in general are to get human beings back on the track – especially in crises situations and after fights – and to think about culture as a fundamental right in the society.

  • Itinerant comments in the monument from 9:30 p.m. to 11 p.m.
    Writers and poets take us to greatest texts written from Voltaire to Victor Hugo, for a stroll in the grand nave of the historical monument.

Please note that the admission to the monument is free all weekend long in exchange for a book to give to the Bibliothèques Sans Frontières association as part of the Quartier du Livre festival and will be free for all from 6:30 p.m. on Saturday!
