La Elle: our photos of Renée Levi's installation at the Palais de Tokyo

A fine way to start the new season's exhibitions at the Palais de Tokyo... The museum invites you to discover artist Renée Levi's installation, entitled La Elle, from September 17 to November 11, 2024. This monumental work takes over La Zone, the reception area of the Parisian contemporary art center, for an immersive experience between mural painting and digital stained glass. An innovative and sensitive re-reading of this space, usually perceived as a mere passageway.

Renée Levi, a Swiss artist of Turkish origin, proposes an installation that redefines the contours of the Palais de Tokyo lobby, playing on the interaction between materials and textures. With La Elle, she juxtaposes two media: a digital stained-glass window, where white serves as a backdrop for color, and an analog wall painting, where white is reserved for signs and signatures. Between opacity and transparency, her pictorial and calligraphic gestures reveal the raw architecture of the building, creating a dialogue between art and space. As Renée Levi herself explains: " Undulation is my personal form of feeling and research [...] I follow this perpetual rotational movement and thus make space and time my own ".

Theinstallation is a true reflection on identity, with letters that become signs, accents that metamorphose into vanishing lines, and first names that turn into abstractions. " My name is my first tangible language ", confides the artist, evoking the intimate link between her identity and her work. The strength of La Elle lies in this tension between the visible and the invisible, between language and abstraction, which Levi explores through loops, erasures and powerful gestures.

Through this work, Renée Levi pursues a prolific career that has seen her exhibited in prestigious venues such as the Lyon Biennale and the Swiss Federal Palace in Berne. Elle at the Palais de Tokyo follows in her footsteps, inviting visitors to reconsider how art can transform a space and make us reflect on our own identity.
