An unprecedented plunge into German Expressionism... From April 4 to August 24, 2025, the Musée d'Art Moderne de Paris is devoting an exhibition to the artist Gabriele Münter, entitled Gabriele Münter: Peindre sans détours. Featuring some 170 works, this exhibition- the first French retrospective dedicated to this major figure of German Expressionism - highlights the breadth of the work of this artist, co-founder of the Blue Rider movement(Blaue Reiter), while exploring six decades of creation marked by great technical diversity and astonishing modernity.

This retrospective is a continuation of the Musée d'Art Moderne 's initiatives to highlight the careers of women artists who have left their mark on the history ofmodern art. Following on from exhibitions devoted to Sonia Delaunay, Paula Modersohn-Becker and Anna-Eva Bergman, the museum continues its approach by shedding new light on Gabriele Münter, whose debut in Paris included a notable participation in the Salon des Indépendants in 1907. Although her name is often associated with that of Kandinsky, this exhibition emphasizes her artistic independence and the importance of her work in the context of the twentieth century.

The public will be able to discover a wide variety of techniques, from painting and photography to engraving and embroidery. This panorama, spanning more than sixty years of creation, aims to restore Gabriele Münter 's impact on the art of her time. Theexhibition offers a chronological journey through the evolution of his style and his central role in the history ofGerman Expressionism, while reaffirming his individuality in the face of male-dominated artistic canons. To be discovered at the Musée d'art moderne de Paris.
