An impressive vestige of Paris'sRoman history, the Arènes de Lutèce date back to the 2nd century A.D., when they were the venue for gladiatorial combat and other public entertainments. Located in the Latin Quarter, these arenas could accommodate up to 15,000 spectators!
Abandoned in the Middle Ages, they were rediscovered in the 19th century during urban development work. Today, they offer a fascinating insight into daily life in ancient Rome, with their bleachers, central arena and well-preserved archaeological remains.
If you've never had the chance to discover the Arènes de Lutèce, why not take advantage of the Fête des Jardins 2023, on September 23 and 24? Here's the program!
A tree-climbing demonstration by arborists will also be held at Square Paul Langevin, a 5-minute walk from the Arènes de Lutèce!
