Those who come to La Caféothèque don't just like coffee. They like really good coffee. Here, it is enjoyed like a fine wine, and you can follow the trail from the coffee tree to the cup. At 52 rue de l'Hôtel de Ville, in the center of Paris, we find confirmed purists (and others in the making), every day of the week from 9am to 8pm; and this since 2005.
You just have to walk around Paris for a few minutes to know that the capital is full of small establishments where you can order an espresso, just like the cozy cafés we have listed for you... The places are nice, cosy, but the coffee you drink there is not always of great quality. The Caféothèque is THE place to come and taste exceptional caffeinated beverages, but not only! It is a true temple of coffee, where roasters, barista students, artists and consumers meet.
A school of caffeology
Since 2009, the Caféothèque School offers a professional training to become an artisanal roaster and/or barista in fine coffees. More than 500 "Caféoth'Ex" have graduated from this school with meaningful projects, and have set up shop all over the world to showcase local coffees.
For the others, the curious, the place invites you to take part in a two-hour journey of initiation, to acquire the basics of coffee science. A group of 14 people(reservations online), professionals of the food industry or passionate amateurs, 2 hours of discoveries, 5 tastings... Workshops are organized on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays mornings for 60 € per person or 100 € for a duo.
From the tree to the cup
Do you know the journey made by your ground coffee before arriving in your cup? At La Caféothèque, each step is taken into account, respected to the letter and adapted according to the customs of the country of origin of the coffee you are served. Did you know that the ideal coffee is roasted for 20 minutes? And that for an espresso, the water temperature should not exceed 92°C? Did you know that coffee offers up to 850 different scents? In short, if you thought you knew everything about this everyday drink, you may be surprised. And your coffee will probably never taste the same again.
Coffee, the muse of artists
Many artists find inspiration in cafés, places where they live, meet and are surprised. So it's not surprising that La Caféothèque organizes exhibitions, in particular by joining forces with Coffeexhibits, a collective that has been integrating art in Parisian cafés since 2011.
In short, if you think coffee, if you dream coffee, if you want to discuss coffee and consume real, good, local coffee, go to La Caféothèque. We bet that before leaving, you will make a small detour to the store to take home an authentic Burundian, Cameroonian or Guatemalan coffee freshly ground...
