Here's a comforting address ideal for facing the oncoming winter. Opened in 2015 under the impetus of three friends, Alix, Vincent and Martin, Kodama is a charming boutique doubling as the cutest tea bar in the Montorgueil district.
The menu features some forty teas and infusions created from scratch by a team ofArtisans du Thé (tea artisans), recognized by Gault&Millau in 2020, who draw their inspiration from across the globe to create original blends with original flavours and tastes, offered in a range signed Kodama under delicious names chosen as a tribute to the prettiest French expressions .
These include green tea Le Vent en Poupe with spearmint, green tea A Coeur Vaillant (mint, orange peel), white teas A Fleur de Peau (rose, violet, jasmine) and La Part des Anges (flaked almonds, popcorn), and black teas Comme des Petits Pains (dates, cocoa beans) and Au Petit Bonheur (peaches, rosemary). The infusions, too, have enchanting nicknames, like Des Lendemains qui Chantent (mint, licorice, lemon), La Vie à Pleines Dents (rooibos, apples, sweet spices) or Du Bout des Lèvres (hibiscus, pineapple, pink pepper).
The recipes, hand-crafted in Kodama's Paris workshop from100% natural ingredients, without preservatives or synthetic ingredients, appear and disappear on the menu according to the desires of the House's founders and the seasons, and a large proportion of these teas and infusions are organic, a very good point.
In winter as in summer, Kodama offers a varied tea experience, savoring your tea either hot or cold, thanks to a cold infusion process that allows all the tea's flavors to develop, even at low temperatures. And let's face it, even in winter, cold tea is pleasant and allows you to be original, for example, by proposing divine food and tea pairings during a meal.
Of course, with Paris freezing cold, we can't recommend enough that you indulge in one of the winter season 's guilty pleasures: the chai latte (€5), made here from cow's milk or plant milks, and topped with a thick, albeit airy, foam.
Open every day of the week from 1:30pm to 6:30pm, with an extended opening on Saturdays from 11am to 8pm, Kodama also has a small pastry corner, made by Clémence Marchon, pastry chef and sister of chef Alexandre Marchon, head of the Marchon restaurant in the 11th arrondissement. The perfect accompaniment to your tasty beverages with delicate artisanal pastries.
A real little cocoon of sweetness that smells of tea from the moment you step through the door.
