For many, coffee is the fuel of daily life. It's also a real passion for gourmets, who enjoy every cup as much as oenophiles do wine. Yes, coffee breaks are sacred, so it's no surprise that coffee roasters and coffee-shops are springing up in Paris and throughout theÎle-de-France region to the delight of coffee aficionados.
And here's a good address that makes coffee a matter of passion. We find ourselves in Pantin, just a metro ride away in the inner suburbs of Paris, to push open the doors ofAnbassa, a caffeine temple dedicated to your favorite beverage. Here, you'll find a spot bathed in the glow of daylight, with a raw, uncluttered decor that stretches beneath a 1930s dome, linking history and modernity.
In an all-transparent setting, echoing the traceability approach that distinguishes this roaster, an imposing counter unveils a selection of specialty coffees, which the place aims to democratize by promoting quality terroirs. As soon as you enter, you can see the roaster in full production, allowing you to follow the meticulous transformation of the coffee beans from their jute sacks to the bags sold here.
The atmosphere is calm and soothing, and lends itself well to a coffee break as well as relaxed coworking. Numerous accessories and machines showcasing processes from the four corners of the globe are also on sale here, making this spot a veritable coffee concept store. A wide range of teas is also available for those who wish to try them!
On site, you can savour the selections offered using different methods, all meticulously crafted. Even when it comes toespresso, the place offers two different types of coffee, one more consensual, the other more focused on discovery, with a regularly changing selection. You'll also find the must-haves, including cappuccino, flat white and latte macchiato, as well as gentle methods such as chemex, which allows you to get a better feel for the subtle notes of the different coffees selected here.
Anbassa will also surprise us with more surprising drinks off the beaten track, including the very refreshing espresso tonic. Fans of Gin Tonic will probably have guessed by now that this is a simple but clever recipe, consisting of covering a shot of espresso with a tonic (in this case, it's made with Archibald, a French craft soda with a rather herbaceous flavour that lends itself well to the creation of this drink). A thick foam forms on top of a layer of espresso, which itself floats on top of the tonic, dividing the glass into three distinct layers. The result is a refreshing, gourmet drink that demonstrates the surprisingly good match between coffee and tonic.
So, if coffee is your daily best friend, here's a passionate address where you can share and enjoy your favorite beverage, while making new discoveries.
