Tea time, yes, but tea time in the very heart of the Château de Versailles, please. Ore is the famous restaurant run by Alain Ducasse, located in the Pavillon Dufour. Go through the gates and cross the Place d'Armes - the pavilion is on the left as you face the château.
The entrance is on the left-hand side of the building. Take the elevator up to the second floor, and you'll discover a place that combines a historic setting with modern decor, designed by architects Dominique Perrault and Frédéric Didier. The restaurant serves classic French cuisine, and now also offers tea time from Tuesday to Sunday.
Ideally located for a visit to the château, before or after, the restaurant offers a lovely view of the square. Ore invites us to discover the Tea Time of Marie Leszczynska, the wife of Louis XV. Served in the sublime tableware of theAncienne Manufacture Royale de Limoges, a faithful reproduction of the tableware of the Louis XV period, we discover savory and sweet dishes accompanied by a hot drink.
On our visit, theafternoon tea menu included crackers and duck foie gras, smoked salmon and horseradish macaroon and cucumber roll with vegetable cream and grated lime.
For the sweet part, orchestrated by Chef Arnaud Dutertre, we discover two plates, the first unveiling travel cakes with a cookie topped with a chocolate rosette, a homemade lemon madeleine and a cannelé.
The second plate, made up of pastries, features an apricot tartlet, a strawberry-hibiscus tartlet and a buckwheat Opera.
Naturally, we accompany this royal snack with a hot chocolate from Manufacture Ducasse, smooth and lightly sweetened, it's perfect. You can also opt for coffee, cappuccino or tea.
Expect to pay €90 for tea time for 2, which can be enhanced with a glass of Champagne. As an added bonus, you'll also have direct access to a guided tour of the Château.
