Do you know this delicious bakery in the Marais district of Paris? It delights Parisians and tourists alike. On rue Filles du Calvaire, you'll find Petite Île Paris, an artisan bakery run by a couple of former Taiwanese designers. Together, their passion for bread-making led them to dream of opening a bakery in Paris. After training at Ferrandi and a formative period at the Passos bakery (now closed), they launched their own business.
At Petite Île Paris, we make entirely sourdough breads with ORGANIC flours, using traditional methods (yes, it takes a lot of work and energy!). There are 3 types of sourdough: liquid, hard and rye. The viennoiseries are also made with sourdough, with a touch of yeast to save time.
In the boutique, you'll find a range of breads made with petit épeautre, buckwheat and even gluten-free for those who are gluten intolerant. Rye pie, farmhouse bread, peasant bread, traditional baguette and long-fermented bread are all on offer.
As for viennoiseries, the stall features classics such as croissants, apple turnovers and pains au chocolat. In addition, there are original recipes such as Taiwanese brioche (melon bread), which combines an original recipe with a very French shaping. The result is a light, buttery bread that's a must-try.
Taiwanese woven buns are also available in matcha, apricot, chocolate and sesame flavors.
Among the delights to try, we particularly recommend the Viennoiserie Danoise with 5 seeds and almond paste filling, as well as the pain au chocolat au sésame, filled with black sesame paste. Try it and you'll love it.
Also on the menu is a savoury range with olive breads and sandwiches made with good sourdough bread, of course. Butter ham, roast chicken, sliced bread or vegan, it's up to you.
For the record, this couple were part of the Taiwanese team that won the 2022 Bakery World Cup, a prestigious competition in which many countries compete each year with baguettes, viennoiseries and breads from around the world.
In short, if you're looking for a very good neighborhood bakery where everything is homemade from good sourdough, with the added bonus of a few sweet treats that make your taste buds travel, Petite Île Paris is the place to go.
