It's not easy to find a nice, good, affordable restaurant where you can eat quietly while the kids play and you enjoy your brunch in peace. La Mangerie has done it, and we love it. Located in the Marais district of Paris, La M angerie is a friendly pantry. It serves delicious tapas and burgers all week long. From crispy peanut pulet and fresh salmon with avocado and basil, to planks of Parma ham and truffle-flavored gouda, everything is prepared on the premises using fresh ingredients (apart from the bread), even the buns and burger buns (made that very morning), which is extremely rare these days.
The products are carefully selected: bread from Thierry Breton, meats from Lalauze, fish from Reynaud and daily fresh vegetables from Halle Prestige, with homemade recipes devised by Adrian Calvo, who has also worked at the Relais de la Poste ** in Magescq. So you can eat with your eyes closed.
Sundays are reserved for kid-friendly brunches. Whether you've got kids or not, this brunch has it all. On arrival, after a warm and friendly welcome by the chef, a friendly nanny takes charge of the kids in a basement play area. She entertains them and orders their meals: homemade sausages and French fries, which they promptly eat. Coloring, painting, board games, they've got plenty to keep them busy.
Meanwhile, you can enjoy a leisurely Sunday brunch. In addition to its bar area and adjoining dining room, the restaurant is bigger than it looks. In fact, at the back of the room, a door concealed in a cupboard leads to a second room with a country feel. Wooden tables, school chairs, crates on the wall and plants make up the decor of this trendy place.
As for the menu, we start by sampling the brioches, olive bread and homemade chocolate cake, all of which are as moist as they come. By dint of perseverance, one day I'll wrest the cake recipe from the cook. We also enjoy spreads with butter and jam, as well as hummus, tapenade and fresh herb cheese.
All this is accompanied by a hot drink and a juice. The choice is yours: detox juice or orange juice squeezed on the premises. For my part, I chose the detox juice, which that day was made with carrots, apple juice, beet and ginger. We continued with a muesli yoghurt and a ramekin of fresh fruit with mint.
For the main course, choose between the carnivorous or the piscivorous version. Salad, potato, baked tomato, scrambled eggs, sausage or salmon - you're in for a treat.
In short, it's a great idea for a night out with friends or a meal out, while keeping the kids happy, without having to spend a fortune on a nanny. Let's adopt it!
