Etsi, which means "like this" in French, is the first of two addresses by young chef Mikaela Liaroutsos . Etsi, at 23 rue Eugène Carrière in Paris's 18th arrondissement, offers a gentle blend of Greek and French culture in a warm, uncluttered setting.
Etsi, with its simple, uncluttered decor, blends into the decor of the 18th arrondissement, drawing inspiration from the decor of restaurants in the area, while differentiating itself with personal touches, giving the place the feel of a Greek tavern. The familiar blue and white of the Cyclades is on display, as are colorful plates and mismatched wooden chairs at different heights.
Etsi was created by Franco-Greek chef Mikaela Liaroutsos, who began her career in the kitchen at the age of 22 after leaving audiovisual studies. She worked with the famous Cyril Lignac and Michel Rostang along the way, culminating in the opening of her restaurant Etsi. Her inspiration came from her family vacations on the island of Serifos, south of Athens, where meals were held around large tables and shared dishes. With the success ofEtsi, the chef set her sights on creating a second restaurant, Outzeri, also in the 18th arrondissement, where you'll discover a more raw, Greek street-food style of cooking.
On the menu, all products are carefully selected and come directly from Greece. Chef Mikaela Liaroutsos offers a cuisine that draws on both Greek and French flavors .
At Etsi, everything is shared. Starters are called mezzes and are cold or hot appetizers to be enjoyed before moving on to the main course. On the menu, you'll find Etsi's tarama, which tastes just like fish (6.5€), the delicious and fresh Dakos salad , made with a slice of dried bread, feta and chopped tomatoes (11€), revisited by Etsi with avocado and cucumber, or the comforting zucchini fritters called (9€).
As for the dishes, the menu changes according to seasonal produce. However, the restaurant has two signature dishes that remain on the menu all year round: firstly, the grilled octopus (15€), very tender, accompanied by a purée of fava, split peas, from the village of Feneos in Greece; and secondly, the feta saganaki (13€), a traditional Greek dish where the feta is baked in a small pan called a"saganaki". Depending on the season, you'll find dishes such as moussaka or calamari roasted in ouzo ,
Desserts also depend on the season. The menu includes walnut blakava, made with marzipan and lemon-sugar syrup, (9€) or milk chocolate kormos (9€), a "salami"-shaped cookie mixed with chocolate. These sweet treats are a perfect blend of French and Greek gastronomy, with the chef revisiting typical Greek desserts.
All the wines on the menu come from different regions of Greece (red, white and rosé wines from 5€ a glass), imported by Oenos, an importer of Greek wines, who works hand in hand with Etsi. For beer lovers, you'll also find Greek beers such as the famous Mythos or Fix, which you'll find in every tavern in Greece.
Etsi - Le bistro is the perfect place to escape for a meal in Greece, and discover the country's gastronomy. You'll be greeted by a warm, family atmosphere that makes you want to return again and again!
