It all began in the 1920s in the Liberdade district of Sāo Paulo, when a large Japanese community moved to Brazil to make up for the shortage of labor in thecoffee industry. Over the decades, the Japanese in Brazil developed a fusion cuisine, blending their own culinary techniques and specialties with local ingredients and herbs, giving birth to Japanese-Brazilian street food .
Laura and Alexis Offe, a French brother and sister living in Hong Kong, have chosen to highlight this original and exciting cuisine with the opening, two years after the inauguration of their first Hong Kong restaurant, ofUma Nota, a stone's throw from Paris's Sentier district.
At lunchtime, Uma Nota invites you on a journey with a short, colorful menu comprising two starters, three main courses, including a vegetarian dish, and two desserts, a guarantee of freshness and weekly renewal. Affordable menus are available on weekdays at €22 starter/main course or main course/dessert and €25 starter/main course/dessert.
For our part, we were tempted by the octopus tartare, presented on crispy tortillas for a lovely interplay of textures, the addictive cheese croquettes, the beef picanha, melt-in-the-mouth and grilled to perfection, and the roasted cauliflower, tofu and feta cream. The lunchtime menu emphasizes Brazilian techniques and products, but in the evening, the focus is more on Japanese flavors.
When night falls, the restaurant changes face and unveils a menu of small plates to share with guests, led by ceviche, yakitori-style brochettes and grilled meats , to be savored to the sound of South American music while enjoying the show put on by Brazilian dancers on certain evenings of the week. A frenzied atmosphere guaranteed, with an exotic cocktail in hand.
Uma Nota can also count on its colorful decor, inspired by traditional Brazilian settings, to transport Parisians to the other side of the world. It's impossible to miss the rainbow-colored Selaron staircase with its 2,000 tiles, topped by a graffiti by street artist Elsa Jean de Dieu. A truly exotic address.
