Have you heard about Café de la Jatte? This huge restaurant set in a former building from the 19th century that unveils a room where levitates a majestic 22-m long plesiosaurus skeleton on the ceiling, a nice bar and a terrace featuring over 200 seats.
Set on the Ile de la Jatte, this restaurant now an Italian brasserie thanks to chef Giuseppe Altilio is very seducing. If you’re looking for leaving the Parisian hustle and bustle, if you want to be by the Sine for a delightful change of scenery inspired by Corsica, this is the place to be. Fresh, seasonal and homemade products, it’s all good.
This summer, the restaurant and especially Mathieu Bucher – the master of the place – worked twice as hard to find real good Corsican artisans by meeting them. It’s with these great discoveries that the restaurant created a short menu but giving pride of place to this beautiful terroir.
On the menu, then:
Corsican cold cut platter (€24). Coppa, Lonzo and cured ham create this beautiful cold cut platter. They all come from Maison Mannei set in Bocognano in south Corsica. Pork famers and transformers for four generation, the Manneis work with black “Nustrale” pork they breed in the open air and feed with chestnuts and acorns, giving the meat an unparalleled texture and flavor.
Corsica pizzettas with black pig cured ham from Corsica (€15). Since the opening of its pizzeria in 2016, Café La Jatte offers on the menu a pizzetta made by the book. The dough is made with whole flour and white organic flour from Moulins Decollogne set at the gates of Paris. A good base, the whole raised for 72hours, it undoubtedly leads to a nice pizza. Add some ham from Maison Mannei and voilà, a top-notch pizzetta.
And whoever speaks about a terrace also means cocktail. This summer, it will be Corsican Spritz (€10) based on red Cap Corse Mattei and prosecco, chestnut beer Pietra (€6) and Corsican IPA (€6) from the famous Corsican brewery.
Unless you’re more into Corsican wine. Café La Jatte chose Sant Armettu Blanc AOC Sartène 2018 white wine, mineral, balanced and aromatic, by legendary winemaker Gilles Seroin.
Bon Appetitu!
