Prost is an evocative name, meaning"to your health" in German, and heralds a good time ahead in a restaurant that focuses on Franco-German specialties, and hides a few well-kept secrets. On the Place de la Bastille, you can sit on the terrace or on the second floor, in a rather unexpected universe, far from a German tavern, with an industrial and steampunk decor, reminiscent of a Jules Verne novel.
All that remains is to choose one of the beautiful futuristic alcoves or a table overlooking the Colonne de Juillet, under subdued lighting, for a meal in an intimate atmosphere. At Prost, the founder, who was born of German parents but raised in France, wanted to enhance the image of German gastronomy by combining it with French classics.
Of course, when we think of German specialties, we don't forget beer, here the figurehead, since the place is designed as a brasserie, where you can taste a selection of the best German beers. To accompany our dishes, we opted for a small tasting of these craft beers, with five samples to suit all tastes, including one with an intense black color that will appeal to fans of bitter beverages with a very high hop content.
In this restaurant with its authentic cuisine, welcomed by attentive staff, we made a point of trying their pretzels, a typical savory pastry that you can also try toasted, which gives us the impression of being at a Christmas market and warms our hearts. Delicately salted, the brioche in the shape of a knot didn't last long, and was as moist as you could wish for. We also opted for sautéed spaetzles, this time an Alsatian specialty: little egg pastas, meltingly soft, accompanied by a beef goulash with paprika.
A comforting dish, traditional in Central European countries, with tender, flavorful meat in a perfectly flavored soup that adds flavor to the accompanying vegetables. At Prost, you can mix the flavors of French cuisine, with foie gras or Burgundy snails, with those of German or Eastern European cuisine, with frankfurters, Currywurst, Viennese schnitzel or flammekueche to share!
And don't forget to stop by the toilets during your visit to Prost, which hide remnants of the Bastille in their stones!
And now all you have to do is find the entrance to thehidden bar, to discover a whole new world...
