Times are tough, that's a fact, so if you want to treat yourself to a return trip to Italy on a budget, here's a solution: Neuvième Cru, a charming Italian restaurant in mini format offering Transalpine specialties at a low price. Located on Rue Richer, an artery of the capital rich in good addresses(Colère, Ardent, L'Office, Bien Elevé and many others), Neuvième Cru is above all a family affair.
Behind this charming, unpretentious address are the Hamour brothers - Yanis in the dining room, Zahir in the kitchen - self-taught chefs who have been hanging around the culinary world for the past ten years. With its friendly welcome and ambience warmed by the small size of the place, Neuvième Cru is a comforting neighborhood address.
On the à la carte menu, there's no room for creative follies, just a menu of great Italian classics, prepared with products sourced directly from the Botte region. Rigatoni alla carbornara prepared according to the rules of the art (guanciale, pecorino romano, egg, pepper, period), lasagne alla bolognese, bruschetta (we'll turn a blind eye to the tomatoes in November), pumpkin velouté and focaccia croutons... and to finish, of course, a slice of tiramisu.
But the big plus here is definitely the prices! For lunch, expect to pay €16 for a main course, €19 for a starter/main course or main course/dessert, and €22 for a starter/main course/dessert, even including coffee. It's hard to beat that these days. For dinner, as the menu lengthens and the lights dim, the restaurant adds a number of new dishes, all at reasonable prices.
An organic and natural wine list, as well as ritual cocktails and sodas, complete this sunny lunch on the other side of the Alps.
