The suburbs close to Paris, particularly to the east of the city, are packed with great cultural venues and vast green spaces, particularly suited to families looking for a variety of outings for toddlers, children and teenagers. In a setting often quieter than the heart of the capital, the towns of Bagnolet, Montreuil and Pantin, all located in the Seine-Saint-Denis département, are great places to spend a day or a few hours east of Paris.
Bagnolet, with its local artistic initiatives, attracts families looking for artistic activities and workshops. There are also some very nice places to spend part of a weekend in the open air, while strolling through the town.
In Montreuil, the city sometimes nicknamed the "city of painted walls" because of its street art frescoes, there are several large parks, ideal for a picnic in fine weather or a stroll all year round, great places to grab a bite to eat or even events organized to coincide with the city's major festivals!
Romainville is famous for its large Parc de la Sapinière, home to the remains of the town's fort, as well as the large TDF tower overlooking the town and the entire landscape north-east of Paris. For a green family outing, it's also an opportunity to discover a lovely panorama of the whole city from the Corniche du Fort.
Pantin, located along the Canal de l'Ourcq, is the ideal place for family outings, bike rides or canoeing, weather permitting. The banks of the canal are regularly transformed into festivities, with water sports activities, concerts and open-air cinemas for all ages, with a peak of activity every summer during theÉté du Canal and Paris Plages.
Accessible by public transport (notably the metro and tramway), each of these towns offers a quieter setting than the capital and great activities for all ages: are we planning a little trip next weekend to Pantin, Bagnolet and Montreuil?
