Bad news for Paris and Ile-de-France public transport users, especially on line P. The Gare de l'Est will close its doors for one day on September 21, 2024, and TGV trains will be diverted to the Gare du Nord, just a short walk away. The reason: a test campaign for the deployment of the SNCF's future traffic management system!
A return to normal service is not expected until early morning on Sunday September 22, but in the meantime, all trains departing from this station serving the east of the country will be affected. TER Fluo trains will be replaced by buses, notably on the Paris-Troyes-Dijon/Mulhouse and Paris-St-Dizier/Bar-le-Duc-Nancy-Strasbourg lines, as well as on Transilien Line P between Chelles-Gournay and Bobigny-Pablo Picasso, Meaux and Torcy, Vaires-Torcy and Torcy, Les Yvris-Noisy-Le-Grand and Bondy, Les Yvris-Noisy-Le-Grand and Noisy-Le-Grand Mont-d'Est.
On the RER E side, traffic will also be much reduced, with no trains arriving at Gare de l'Est, Magenta or Haussmann-Saint-Lazare! If you have to go through this station by metro, you'd better get off at the next station, as Gare du Nord is just as well served.
In short, it's going to be a complicated day, and the SNCF recommends postponing your travel plans! So if you're travelling from Gare de l'Est, you'll have to wait until the following day to take advantage of the Journées du Patrimoine!
