Evening visit to the exhibition "Alberto Giacometti / Petrit Halilaj - We were building a fantastic palace at night..."
Saturday, May 17, 2025 6:30 pm - 11 pm
Free admission, subject to availability.
The exhibition "Alberto Giacometti / Petrit Halilaj - We were building a fantastic palace at night..." at the Institut Giacometti brings together works by contemporary artist Petrit Halilaj and those by Alberto Giacometti. Marked by his childhood in war-torn Kosovo, Petrit Halilaj has developed a practice in which individual and collective histories intertwine to envisage spaces of freedom not devoid of playfulness and lightness. Like Giacometti at certain periods, children's drawings have nourished his work, opening up a dreamlike, even magical horizon to sculpture.
Starting with a children's drawing copied by Giacometti, Halilaj enters into a subtle, dreamlike dialogue, playing on the passages between drawing and sculpture, revealing previously unseen aspects of his elder's work. With almost thirty works produced specifically for the exhibition, Halilaj explores the childlike vocabulary of his "Abetare", a form of drawing in space that has become a means of expression in its own right. The exhibition explores both artists' relationship with childhood, dreams, associations and wonder.
